It is a difficult path for many who are obese but there are things that can be done in order to become healthy and rid the chances of becoming a diabetic. There are many different ways to treat obesity and they all depend on each specific person. Some just need to change their diet and can do that while others might require a weight loss surgery. One should consult with their physician to see what is best for them specifically.

One of the best ways that one can work on losing weight is little by little. Maybe striving to lose 1-2 pounds a week is a good start. The link to the left is very interesting in the way that it speaks on a good way to lose weight. It is almost as though it states slow and steady wins the race. I think that if one were to follow this criteria they would begin to feel better within a few months knowing what they had accomplished by changing just a few habits in their life.

Watch this video on behavior therapy and let me know what you think about this. Do you think that it can be successful for patients and doctors everywhere? What can people change in their diets?

Treating of your diabetes if you have already been diagnosed is very important. It is best to prevent diabetes in your life but if for some reason you do end up with it in the future may I add some suggestions that will further your life and prevent you from possible early death. In this first article it gives some good suggestions. It is important to have good self care at home, proper exercise, diet, eliminate alcohol consumption, and self monitored blood glucose.

To keep one alive longer it is important to work on these factors:

Blood pressure and cholesterol control

Careful self testing of blood glucose levels

Education

Exercise

Foot care

Meal planning and weight control

Medication or insulin use

So, if you or loved one has diabetes please take the proper precautions so that you can live a long and happy life with your family and friends. Be sure to consult with a physician if there are any concerns that come about with the health of a loved one or yourself. One can still live happily if proper treatment takes place.

One of the greatest contributing factors to obesity is the convenience of fast food. In a recent study it was found that the closer fast food restaurants were to students the more likely there was a greater rate of obesity. In fact it was 5% higher among ninth graders who lived within a tenth of a mile of the fast food. If students lived farther away there was less obesity.

Along with this there was a study done with pregnant women and fast food being close to them. It was found that if there was fast food within a half of mile women who were pregnant had an increased risk of gaining 44 pounds while pregnant.

So the study concluded that the closer proximity of fast foods to pregnant women and schools the more likely there would be obesity seen or a greater weight gain in those areas.

Should there be zoning laws made to prevent fast food restaurants from being able to be located close to schools? How much should the community get involved?

So what is it that can be done to decrease the number of people who struggle with obesity and leads to diabetes and other health problems in their lives. The Surgeon General has a Call to Action. I thought this was great on how it set things straight forward on what needs to happen to keep one from getting to be obese and also it shows suggestions on what can be done to help lose weight in overweight children.

There is a huge health risk with being overweight or obese. One of those is that of diabetes Type II. Someone who is 40% overweight is twice as likely to die prematurely as is an average-weight person. If you take a look here it is interesting to see the link between diabetes and obesity. There are a few suggestions such as exercising more often and losing weight.

Do you think the call to action is something that should be published more? What other ways might be good to decrease the risk of obesity and diabetes?

Can this be true? A camp that will help you lose weight so that you feel better about yourself and can participate in more activities. Well, welcome to fat camp; Location=South Carolina. This is where there is a fat camp for grown ups. I thought this was pretty amazing that someone would go so far to go to a fat camp for adults.

In this particular camp they did not make you participate in the activities you just had to stick to a certain amount of calories that they portioned to you. So the fat camp is not for everyone. If one were to think it was like the biggest loser they would be wrong. The exercising is something that is up to you and you are not forced into doing anything. So just remember that if you have the thought of going to a fat camp beware that you must be ready to get out and do things on your own not being motivated by anyone.

Do you think that this could become effective if they began making people participate in activities? What would be something that the camps could change in order to get more people to participate?

Recently introduced to specifically battle the increased numbers in children with obesity is the Let’s Move Campaign from the Obama’s. Watch this video and see what you think of the plan to combat childhood obesity. There has been four key areas introduced as part of this program. Getting parents more informed about nutrition and exercise, improving the quality of food in schools, making healthy foods more affordable and accessible for families, and focusing more on physical education.

I think that this is a great plan that the Obama’s have launched to combat these big struggles of so many children with obesity. If the campaign can get enough people on its side it can probably be a very successful one. I personally feel that it is a great idea and that children that participate and parents that get involved will have a lot of success in the program. It might be a difficult road to get there but if it starts small and continues to grow this could possibly bring about a change in the challenge of childhood obesity being faced.

Let me know what you think about this plan. Will it work? How can they get more people to participate?

WHO said BMI is an important thing to look at for obesity?…No pun intended. It is easy for one to look at this chart and figure out where they lie after figuring out their BMI by going to the doctor.

BMI is the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters. If one looks at the chart above you can tell who and where one is obese or overweight. Often those undernourished in childhood can face extreme difficulties in the future with chronic illnesses.

So when you get the chance to measure your BMI do it. Find out where you stand and change if you need to. Check out this story and see what you think can be done on a doctors standpoint.

As can be seen here there is a huge problem going on throughout the United States with Obesity. Battling Obesity here in America has become a huge problem and will continue to increase if nothing is done to help change peoples motivations and desires. Take a look at this video and let me know what you think. It is incredible to see what is going on with people and the struggle to make change happen.

190 Million Americans are overweight or obese. Obesity-related diseases are a $147 billion dollar medical burden every year. This is a staggering number that could be lessened if we would just take the time to figure out what is healthy for our diet and what is not. Take a look at this video and tell me what you think about it.

As can be witnessed in this picture here, one can notice that obesity is also a huge problem with children. Adults have a problem with what they eat and desire to put into their bodies but what are they allowing children to do? According to some of the statistics from the CDC, an estimated 17 percent of children and adolescents ages 2-19 years are obese.

So take a good look around you as you walk outside today, tomorrow or this week and see how many children you see that are obese. It is scary to think that children today are becoming obese at a younger age. Lets hope that we can put a stop to this and help children stay fit and help parents understand the risks associated with allowing children to become obese.

Well have you ever thought of what could be the cause of Americas soaring numbers in diabetes over the past few years. Well, if you ever have here is a nice article about what is to blame for the increase in diabetes. OBESITY is the one to blame of course. This study done by the CDC shows that there is a great link between diabetes and obesity.

A study that was done in this same situation showed that from 1997 to 2003, there was a 41% increase in the incidence of diagnosed diabetes. In 2003, two out of every 1,000 normal-weight people had diabetes. In the same year, diabetes struck 18.3 out of every 1,000 obese people, and 5.5 out of every 1,000 overweight people.

So tell me what you think. Is there a link between diabetes and obesity or are people just exaggerating and making things up?
